Mount Gould Hospital – Plymouth

Secure & Sensitive Perimeter Solution for Mental Health Setting

At Mount Gould Hospital, we delivered a high-security fencing solution designed specifically for a mental health environment including anti-ligature and seclusion garden areas, where safety, privacy, and appearance are equally critical.

Healthcare and mental health facilities require a careful balance:

  • Robust perimeter security to protect patients, staff, and visitors
  • A non-institutional appearance to support a calm, therapeutic environment, seclusion garden spaces
  • Long-lasting materials suitable for high-use, external conditions
  • Anti-ligature considerations to minimise risk in vulnerable environments

We installed a 3.0m high-security fencing system enhanced with bespoke visual screening, suitable for anti-ligature applications:

  • 358 High-Security Mesh Fencing (9m run)
Anti-climb, anti-cut mesh fixed to heavy-duty steel posts set in concrete at 1.25m centres.
  • Full-Height Printed Aluminium Cloaking
Perforated 2mm aluminium panels, printed with a client-supplied design, providing:
    • Visual privacy
    • A softer, more welcoming aesthetic
    • UV-stable, fade-resistant finish
  • Integrated Access Solutions
    • 3.0m high double gate (2.1m wide) fully clad to match fencing
    • Secure single access gate with Locinox locking system and infill panel for controlled entry
  • Durable Finish
All steelwork galvanised and powder coated in RAL 6005 Moss Green, ensuring longevity and a clean, consistent look.

This installation delivers high-level security without compromise to the environment, a key requirement in mental health settings and seclusion garden settings.

The addition of printed aluminium cloaking transforms what would traditionally be a harsh perimeter into a visually considered boundary, supporting patient wellbeing while maintaining strict security standards.

The finished installation provides a secure, private, and visually considered boundary, supporting both operational requirements and patient wellbeing.

By combining high-security mesh with bespoke printed cloaking, the system provides:

  • Secure, anti-climb perimeter protection
  • Enhanced privacy for patients and staff
  • Reduced visual impact through bespoke printed screening
  • Durable, low-maintenance system suitable for healthcare environments
  • Fully integrated, secure access points.

In mental health environments, perimeter solutions must do more than secure a site, they must contribute to a safe, calm, and therapeutic atmosphere.

This project demonstrates how carefully specified materials and finishes can transform essential security infrastructure into a feature that supports both safety and wellbeing, particularly within anti-ligature and seclusion garden applications.
